Grand Master "Chung"
of New York’s Chinatown.
On Friday, May 8, 2009, I was invited by Julio Anta owner of Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense, Miami – Florida to attend a ceremony to honor his Grand Master, William J. Chung (Zhong Chao Ding) of New York’s Chinatown.
Anta's Fitness and Self Defense is a fully equip Stretch Loop center.
Julio Anta is a direct disciple of the Southern Shaolin Temple in China. He is the head of the Southern United States of Bill Chung’s Southern Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu Association under the direction of Grand Master Chung.
Grand Master Chung is a 2nd Generation Personal Disciple of Southern Shaolin Abbot Chang Ding of Fujian Province Quanzhou Southern Shaolin Temple.
Anta’s Kung Fu and traditional Chinese Lion Dance Demonstration Team performed at Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense to honor their Grand Master.
In keeping the Shaolin tradition alive he conducted a Shaolin Temple Disciple Ceremony on Saturday, May 9, making Anta a disciple of Shaolin and giving his school direct linage to the temple. Grand Master Chung talked about his experience in the martial arts and training at Anta Fitness and Self Defense, 10721 NW 58 St. Doral. This event was free and opened to the general public.
Chinese Community also honored Shaolin Master on Saturday, May 9, Southern Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu Grand Master and direct disciple of the Southern Shaolin Temple in China William J. Chung (Zhong Chao Ding) of New York’s Chinatown was honored by the South Florida Chinese Community with a welcome party at the Canton Chinese Restaurant of Coral Gables, 2614, Ponce De Leon Blvd at 7 PM. Numerous dignitaries from the Chinese Community were present. A traditional Chinese Lion Dance was performed to begin the celebration.
Grand Master Chung is a pioneer in the martial arts. In the early 60’s he was teaching non Chinese the ancient Chinese treasure of Southern Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu. This was way before it was accepted in the Chinese Community. Chung started Kung Fu at the tender age of 7 in 1943. Today at 75 he has 68 years of kung fu knowledge under his belt. He is also one of the few men that possess a true iron palm. He has been inducted into numerous Martial Arts Hall of Fame’s. He knew Bruce Lee well and was the head judge when Chuck Norris won the World Karate Championship in Madison Square Gardens in New York. He was also a guest of Johnny Carson in the Tonight Show in 1967 and was featured in numerous magazines in the seventies. Today Chung keeps a low profile and is a well respected community leader in New York’s Chinatown.
Julio Anta introduced me to his Grand Master and I have the opportunity to give him a Stretch Loop.
Anta says “It is truly an honor to be under Grand Master Chung’s tutelage. We might be the only kung fu school in South Florida with direct linage to the Southern Shaolin Temple.” Hung Gar stands for Hung family. The Anta family is truly a Hung family. Anta’s two sons are currently Black Belts in their system.
Hung Gar is not a sport or a game it is a reality based self defense that has been battle tested in the streets of southern China, the Chinese Art of War. Hung Gar is the style popularized by Chinese folk hero Wong Fei Hung in the early 1900’s. Jackie Chung, Gordon Liu (Kill Bill) and Jet Lee have all portrait Master Wong in the Legend of the Drunken Master and Once Upon a Time in China.
I thank Julio Anta again for the invitation and the opportunity to meet his Grand Master.
If you want to get a glimpse of this traditional ancient Shaolin Temple ritual, call Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense at 305 599-3649.

Stretch Loop™ Review by Dan "Tendangan Sakti" Davies
For over 20 years I have been a practitioner of Taekwondo, a martial art in which kicks are an integral part of the curriculum. Therefore I have always been interested in stretching, which includes trying every stretching machine available on the market.
Its unique design makes the Stretch Loop™ the best I have ever encountered. Most stretching machines are designed to simulate floor stretches such as the splits, but for athletes who use kicks in their sport (martial artists and dancers, for example) stretches such as splits – and consequently machines designed to simulate splits – are practically useless.
Flexibility is specific to the demands you place on your body. This is because there are two kinds of stretch receptors in your muscles: one which detects how far and how fast you stretch, and the other detecting how far only. In other words, flexibility is specific to the angle of the joints and position in which you perform the exercise. For that reason floor stretches, and therefore floor-mounted stretched devices, provide very little benefit to kickers.
The Stretch Loop™ is designed in such a way to provide you with the optimum position in which to develop maximum kicking-specific flexibility. Working out with this product also reduces stress on the joints and improves balance when compared to traditional floor stretches. The standing position of the stretches provides an additional kick to the cardiovascular benefits of your workout.
The instructions and exercise chart provided with the product are clear and very easy to follow, and setting it up ready for your workout takes just seconds. It is easily stored and portable, which makes it a winner for me because I spend a lot of time travelling the country delivering seminars on sports conditioning and self-defence. Needless to say I will take the Stretch Loop™ with me to use in my hotel rooms, as well as demonstrating its effectiveness in all of my future seminars.
The low price makes this product excellent value for money, and the customer service offered by MT Creates is exceptional. I cannot say enough good things about this product and its creators. If you are serious about your training then you need the Stretch Loop™ in your workout! "

THE BENEFITS OF STRETCHING
Why do we stretch when we get out of bed in the morning? Is it because it makes us feel relaxed or relief? Others might call it pleasurable.
At that time, for most of us it’s a time to evaluate everything, a time to look around and perhaps appreciate a new day to come and go over what we have planed for the day. Your thoughts are clear and your mind opened.
At the time of the stretch, a deep breath is taken then held as your muscles tighten and then released as we lower our arms.
If you think about it, for many of us there isn’t another time during that day where we will feel as relaxed as at the end of that stretch. So much that many times we will just fall right back on the bed to savor more of this peaceful moment.
So, if it feels so good to stretch your arms up and breath deeply, why do we not do it for more specifics parts of our body?
Sure you can stretch your legs and arms out in one motion while sitting in your chair but there are a lot of other parts of your body that need more attention in order to be stretched properly.
If you never stretch those parts there is a chance that when you take part in an activity that requires those parts to finally be used and stretched to their max, they will not give you maximum performance and may even “ brake down” if you ask too much of them. That’s one of the reasons that many athletes get hurt for no apparent explanation. For example: a baseball players running for first base without warming up and stretching first and in doing so pulls a hamstring while running.
When a person stretches regularly, the parts that are stretched keep gaining elasticity so when they are needed to do extreme motions, they can usually do them further out, faster and with more power without over extending those muscles and tendons. Karate kicks are a good example and it’s no wonder that Martial Arts practitioners are one of the groups that stretch the most when preparing to kick. Like Karate students, when stretching a person should always breathe deeply to bring more oxygen in the body and augment blood circulation to the muscles. That in turn will permit the person to not only benefit from a good stretch but will also relax, recharge, and rejuvenate the body and mind.
I think that people needs to be more aware of what stretching does for a person’s health and spiritual balance. It’s as important, if not more important then exercising. It’s a great stress release and once a person develops this habit, they can then look into more specific types of stretching that will fit their needs.
To know more on those different types of stretches here is a great website that will teach you the many ways a person can stretch and also show the many props a person can use to facilitate the stretching process.
This website was created by a good friend of mine and also a former Olympic gymnast coach, Mr. Jaime Lapide.
The site is called, http://www.stretchsport.com
On his site you will find an interview that I did with Jaime where we talk about stretching and also about a patented leg stretching device which I have invented and called The Stretch Loop.
To find out more about my leg stretcher and see a video demonstration,

I hope this bit of information was useful to the readers and will get more people to discover the great benefits of stretching.

THE STRETCH LOOP tm - TESTIMONIALS
"The stretch loop worked as advertised. It was very easy to setup and easily stores behind the door when not in use. I mainly wanted this for an injured hamstring after a marathon. I can actually touch my toes now. "

"Your device will be used for neuromechanical training-not just stretching. You have no idea what good you have done :) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" "As a Z Health Practitioner I use joint specific and body position specific joint mobility to drive the nervous system and improve motor control, strength, speed, flexibility etc. Your stretching device allows me to put kickers (dancers, martial artists, rehab clients etc) in specific positions that they would have a difficult time achieving on their own. Ballet barres will work but they are usually of only 2 heights. Your pulley allows exact leg elevation and the appropriate body position to do theses specific drills. :) zzzzzzzzzz"

"I am totally delighted with your Stretch Loop. It is so easy to use and the the results are immediate. I am 34 years old and started taking Karate with my 5yr old just last year. I had participated in 2 tournaments prior to using your product and since have been told by both judges and fellow competitors what a difference they have seen with my flexibility."
Thanks very much,

"The Stretch Loop is a good way to stretch when you are on the road. I live on the road 8 months of the year in hotels and will hang it in the door well. At home I use it every day to stretch before my work out. I work as a martial arts photographer and have to get up and down all day. The stretch loop helps to keep by legs from hurting.
"WOW, I AM A BELIEVER! I finally found a place that I could hang the stretcher and went through the stretches. I was amazed. It is so easy!! I know that stretching is good for you, and helps in aging as well. I have wanted to stretch consistently but it is so hard to sit on the floor and stretch for air! Even after that you haven't accomplished much! This was easy and very effective! 20 minutes after the stretch I had this sensation as if I had a rush of blood to the joints in my hips, and even my knee's. My quads and hams felt great and almost rejuvenated. "

THE STRETCH LOOP tm - PRODUCT REVIEW by JENNY GOEBEL
Handy and easy to use, the Stretch Loop has you use your own body weight to comfortably make the most of your stretching. Comprised of a rope and pulley fixture, it is simple enough for anyone to work with, whether an avid runner needing to stretch out your leg muscles before a run, a yoga instructor looking for a break in the routine of floor stretches, or a kid in a martial arts class. Easily portable you don’t have to forgo the best part of your exercise program just because you’re traveling.
Important for stress reduction, balance improvement, muscle performance and more, stretching is most often completed on the floor, alone, with a partner or with an unstable chair. For those who are uncomfortable or even just bored with these options, the Stretch Loop presents an enjoyable alternative. The rope is slid through the pulley which is affixed to either an eyehook in the ceiling or to a door jamb bracket. Your ankle goes through the looped end of the rope, and your hand gently pulls to create resistance at the opposite end. A noteworthy benefit…breathing during the stretching is improved by the standing position thereby increasing your oxygen intake and enhancing your workout.
A quick set-up option is provided for with the inclusion of a door casing bracket; I would check the sizes of your door jambs first; you may not need to order the “kit with door bracket” if the bracket won’t fit. If this is the case, a large eye hook is what you’ll need for installation; directions for this are included in the kit.
A large diagram clearly illustrating 8 leg-stretch exercises is also included in the kit and can be hung on the wall near your Stretch Loop for easy reference; for me this is a very handy and necessary visual aide. I would also encourage you to visit the Stretch Loop website to view photographs and video of the Stretch Loop in use; this was very helpful for me! M.T. Creates affords their customers ample support through the website. Instructions are thorough and should be read carefully for safety information. A certain degree of physical ability is needed to perform these exercises, but with practice, they should become routine.
